Awaiting my Dell Performance PC - XPS 8300

I recently ordered a dell performance PC to work on my VFX shots at home. It’s a great deal I got during the promotional  ‘Days of Dell’ week. The configurations is quite impressive as well – 16GB RAM, 2TB HDD, i7 2600, ATI HD 6670 DDR5, 24” Monitor. Unfortunately(if you wanna buy it now) it now costs CAD$1669.00 where I got it for $1230. Although the graphics card is not good enough Im counting on the processor and the RAM. The softwares I currently work with are – Nuke, Maya, After Effects, SynthEyes and Houdini and im hoping this config will more than sufficiently handle these.

This is the Model, but you will have to configure it to the above mentioned configuration - http://configure.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?oc=dxps8300_f_5e&c=ca&l=en&s=dhs&cs=cadhs1&model_id=xps-8300
I am still waiting for the shipment to arrive and will post about the performance when I get it.
Until then, uhmmm..bye!

  1. So, how is the performance on this one? I want a new workstation for nuke comp, but I am not sure if I should go for "precision 1600" or this one. Which graphics card are you using?

    1. 'Incredible', in one word!
The difference between this and the t1600 is basically the graphics card.
The graphics card options available with T1600 are all high-end-ish and the one I received with my 8300 is a shitty $80 graphics card(ATI 6670). Apart from the graphics card its a really powerful machine. Xeon or i7 really doesnt matter if the no. of threads are the same. Overall, Ive had a great experience working with Nuke on this machine(no problems at all)!
